Document Generation Errors

If TalkDoc is unable to generate a document from your voice recording, these troubleshooting steps can help.

Internet Connection

Document generation requires an active internet connection. TalkDoc sends your voice recording to AI services for processing, which requires connectivity.

Check Your Connection

  1. Open Settings on your device
  2. Verify you’re connected to Wi-Fi or cellular data
  3. Try opening a web page in your browser to confirm the connection is working
  4. If your connection is weak or unstable, move closer to your Wi-Fi router or go to an area with stronger cell signal
**Tip:** Using Wi-Fi is recommended for generating documents, as it's typically faster and more reliable than cellular data.

Retry Failed Generation

If document generation fails due to a temporary connection issue:

  1. Return to your document in the app
  2. Look for a Retry button or option
  3. Tap Retry to attempt generation again
  4. Wait for the processing to complete

The document’s status will update from “Processing” to “Complete” once successful.

Transcript Quality Issues

Poor audio quality can lead to inaccurate transcription, which may affect document generation:

  • Record in quiet: Background noise reduces transcription accuracy
  • Speak clearly: Enunciate words and avoid mumbling
  • Check audio levels: Ensure you’re speaking at a normal volume (not too soft)
  • Avoid overlapping speech: Speak when others aren’t talking
  • Use a microphone-friendly environment: Hard surfaces reflect sound better than soft materials

See Voice Recording Tips for detailed best practices.

Error Messages

When document generation fails, TalkDoc shows a Generation Failed card with a message describing what went wrong. Common messages include:

“Document generation failed. Please try again.”

This is the most common error. It usually means a temporary connection or server issue:

  • Verify your internet connection (see Internet Connection section above)
  • Ensure airplane mode is off
  • Tap Retry Generation to try again

”The AI service is busy. Please wait a moment and try again.”

The AI service is experiencing high demand:

  • Wait a minute or two and tap Retry Generation
  • If the error persists, try again later

”Generation timed out.”

The request took too long to complete:

  • This can happen with very long transcripts
  • Try a shorter recording or split your observations across multiple documents
  • Tap Retry Generation to try again

Document Status

While generating a document, you’ll see the status progress through these states:

  • Recorded: Voice recording complete, awaiting processing
  • Processing: AI is generating your structured document
  • Complete: Document successfully generated and ready to edit
  • Error: Generation failed; tap Retry Generation to try again
**Tip:** You can continue using TalkDoc while documents are processing in the background. The app will notify you when processing completes.
